Mavericks – The Social Committee of BBA

About the club:

Mavericks, the Social Committee of BBA conducts the events whose primary purpose is to serve the society and do good for the society. Maverick in itself means a person who steps forward and does some different. We conduct various social events all along the year. We have organized multiple events as of now like Ye Hichak Kaisi, Humans Of Nirma, Wisdom Valley- Folk With Folks, Chai Pe Charcha – Debate – The Indian Way, Mistletoe Mania, Udaan, Art Mela, and The Food Drive. All the events had their own and unique purpose. Jamboree is our flagship event. The main aim of our committee is to give something back to the society, in today’s busy world we are forgetting that there are also other unprivileged and backward societies who need some help. So, we as a committee try to bring that change and help them.

Once a Maverick Always a Maverick.

Yeh Hichak Kaisi was a Menstrual Hygiene awareness event organized for young girls from the rural parts of Ahmedabad to pass on the cautionary learnings in the most leisurely and fun way possible, with games, music and videos. To break the Taboo, both boys and girls from IMNU participated, and distributed sanitary napkins to them as well.

The Humans of Nirma is an ongoing social media event that aims to shed light on people who are not well known but work very hard everyday to earn a living. Each person has a story to tell so to let others know about their struggles and to learn from them, we go ahead and interview them. During the interviews we talk to them about the problems and their experiences with Nirma University. It was truly an enlightening experience for all of us to know about the hardships and how they coped with it.

The event involved various activities like assembling of food items like samosa, chocolates, namkeen, khakhra, maaza etc. and working in organized manner to make handmade food packets and their distribution in slums of Tragad area, Sola Road, S.G Highway and parts of West Ahmedabad.

The target for the drive were the little kids who find happiness in every little thing which comes their way, and live their lives freely, in its true sense. There were multiple stops during the drive where students interacted with these small children and played with them, introduced them to the idea of Independence, why and how is it celebrated leaving them all elated with pride for their country and joy for their happy times.

The event also proved to be a good interactive session for the seniors and the new batch as they could all contribute on their part with putting all their hearts into this, just for those innocent smiles.

The  committee organised a 7 km run as it was the time to run for our health and fitness. It was an inter- institute event. They were excited and full of energy for the run. The event was conducted from 7am to 9am. The winner completed the marathon in 41 minutes, the first runner up in 42 minutes and the second runner up in 43 minutes. All the runners completed the run within 1.5 hours. The winners and the runners-up were awarded with medals for their achievement. Also, all the participants were provided with refreshments after the completion of the run. The participants enjoyed the event alot and also provided feedback of appreciation to the committee. This food drive was a medium for the committee to spread some smiles which has always been the aim. This made the event a great success.
