About
Prof. Samik Shome is a distinguished teacher and researcher in Economics with over 25 years of experience in teaching, research, and consultancy. He earned his PhD from the University of Calcutta and currently serves as Professor of Economics and Chairperson of the PhD Program at the Institute of Management, Nirma University.
His research interests include rural development, public policy, labour economics, and vocational education, with a strong focus on evaluating government programs at the grassroots level and developing conceptual and strategic frameworks. He has undertaken projects for the European Union, UNCTAD, and ICSSR, and served as a consultant for the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Rural Development, and the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
Prof. Shome is the co-author of the book “Vocational Education and Training: Foundations for Transforming the Nation” with world-renowned scholar Prof. Jagdish N. Sheth, featuring a foreword by Prof. Philip Kotler. He is also a Visiting Professor at the Coles College of Business, Kennesaw State University, Atlanta, USA. In 2025, he received the AIMS-IBA Outstanding Management Researcher Award.
