The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a social service program sponsored by the Indian government that was launched in 1969. Its core mission is to shape the moral fibre of students by actively involving them in community initiatives, emphasizing essential virtues such as societal well-being, self-reliance, collaboration, and responsibility. As students actively participate in a spectrum of activities, they derive fulfilment and passion from contributing to the welfare of others, embodying the fundamental ethos of NSS: ‘Not me, but you.’
From January 28 th to February 4 th , the NSS Unit of the Institute of Management, Nirma University, organized a transformative seven-day rural camp in Ambaliyara village, ta. Dholka, Dist. Ahmedabad. The excited volunteers embarked on a journey of service and community engagement, addressing local needs while fostering bonds with the villagers.Throughout the week, volunteers engaged with the community through a spectrum of activities. From conducting surveys on essential civic documents such as Aadhaar cards and Voter ID cards, etc. to distributing Ayushman cards for financial inclusivity. The NSS volunteers also undertook a variety of social awareness campaigns related to environmental cleanliness, gender equality, and mental and physical wellbeing. For this purpose, they adopted creative and highly community-engaging approaches like a Nukkad Natak, dance competitions, yoga and meditation workshops, menstrual hygiene workshops, a drawing competition, and much more. As students of managerial studies, these volunteers also conducted surveys related to agriculture and horticulture and cooperative and rural financial systems. These initiatives underscored the commitment of the volunteers and left a lasting impact on the village, fostering empowerment and unity.
