The Operations Management and Decision Science area, the core of MBA program, focuses on value creation in products and services. The progressions in the ways organizations create value keep this area ever evolving. The area aims at preparing graduates to embrace the challenges and accept the value-creating opportunities leading towards business excellence. Operations management aims to increase the content of value-added activities in any given process and in the current scenario, principles of decision science are integrated to fulfil this aim. The area offers core courses in the first year of the MBA program, to develop students’ abilities for planning and executing the value-creating process for products and services. During this time, basic concepts of data-based decision-making are covered. For making Operations professionals ready to face industry challenges, in the final year, electives are offered to impart skills such as operations planning and supply chain design for order fulfilment; demand forecasting, quality assurance, delivery compliances, managing projects and product development to serve market requirements. The area offers specialization in operation management for postgraduate programs.
Considering the emerging areas, the courses are offered to develop skills for managing the operation of services and distributions; digitalisation and continuous improvement of business operations; managing complexities/risks and optimization of supply chain; managing global supply chain network for international customers; with a focus on total quality management and green operations for both products and services. Keeping in mind the current trends and the need to channel talent capabilities towards data-driven business excellence, the area imparts skillsets in analytics, data mining and model optimization for better decision making. The area offers advanced-level courses in the doctoral program.
